Jewelled coryphee
With quivering wings like shielding gauze outspread.

My parents’ backyard is a haven, a magical place. Swallowtails dance in the tree canopy, having recently hatched from eggs laid on the tall tulip poplars. Bluebirds, wrens, titmice, finches, orioles, countless kinds of woodpeckers – and my favorite, the hummingbird. You can hear him coming, if you are sitting in the right spot on the deck , the buzz of his wings as he performs a Maverick-esque fly-by on the way to the feeder. And he feeds, even though you aren’t more than 3 feet away. They never cease to amaze me….
