Emperor of the North

Emperor of the North

I was out shooting this train for a few hours today – there was all kinds of graffiti, but what I found most interesting were pieces like these. They are true “___ was here” pieces, and fellow hoppers all over the country look for them (and leave their own mark). They are sometimes used as a means of sending messages and sometimes simply to tell others where you are at any given time. The dates on this train ranged from 2006 – 2008.

Graffiti reminded me of something some of us used to call Graffiti Bridge in Pensacola. It’s a train trestle, passing over 17th Street, just past the Bob Sikes Bridge (the one from Gulf Breeze to P’cola). If you want to photograph something wild, provocative, colorful, strange, changing, fascinating, and a few other adjectives that are currently escaping my lithium-addled brain, go there.
